We are writing in regard that on May 22, 2008 a fire storm in the Santa Cruz Mountains totally burned our house to the ground. The fire started around 5:00 o’clock in the morning about 12 miles across the canyon from our road, which had 12 homes built in a remote and very beautiful part of the Santa Cruz mountains. Our neighborhood though being remote was still upscale and Santa Cruz Co. permitted. Being in a remote area, all the neighbors were good friends and relied on each other. (we’re still good friends, just spread out a lot more). Well, when our computer savvy neighbors A & E (Allen and Ellen) bought one of your generators; they sold us on all the great features of your products. Runs off of our propane tank, self starting, self monitoring. For a year and a half before the fire, we enjoyed the convenience and safety of having our own secure power source. We have always experienced many power outages, for days and weeks at a time. So on the morning of May 22, 2008 the “Summit Fire” jumped eight miles in a bout 45 minutes burning our whole neighborhood in the first two hours of the fire. Without any fire services or official warnings it was just neighbor phoning neighbor, saying “get out now there is a major fire coming our way NOW!” I was working in the San Francisco Bay area at the time and my wife Sherry was home alone. She only had time to rescue our two sheltie dogs and our cat. She was able to get our animals in the car, but when she went to open the garage door the fire was burning across the front of the house and burned the power lines down. The garage door opener would not work, and our old large garage door was way too heavy for her to lift. (at this point I stop and wonder how many people would think about crashing their car through the garage door to escape such a situation). Anyway, on queue and as specified and advertised our Generac generator came on and saved her life and the day. Sherry made it out OK and down the mountain having to drive over two burning trees in the road. Our car took a few hits but all made it out ok. So, I’m writing to thank you for a product and a promise that is trustworthy and good. My generator ran until the wires and plugs melted. The motor still looks good.
As of this today 5/22/09 we are still rebuilding. We have the walls up, windows in and are hoping to move in by Thanksgiving. I’m putting the utilities under ground and will be shopping for a new Generac generator soon. Once again, thank you very much and my wife Sherry thanks you, also my dogs, KC and Morgan plus our cat Anabell thanks you.
