Situation Food service and grocery store companies are highly energy-dependent to ensure the freshness and safety of their products. Temperatures in freezers and refrigeration units must meet certain levels or the food can no longer be offered to customers. Even brief outages could result in significant financial losses.
A family-owned company, Festival Foods, was founded in 1946. They operate more than 20 stores and employ more than 5,000 people throughout Wisconsin. The company is unique in that they have a mission to deliver more than groceries. From the website, “Festival Foods will be Wisconsin's leading and most innovative grocer. We will consistently deliver the best shopping experience, be the best place to work, and make a positive impact in the communities we serve.”
The company planned to open a location in Mount Pleasant, WI and needed a backup power system to protect its products while better serving its customers.
Challenges Festival Foods wanted an environmentally-responsible standby generator that provided extended periods of runtime to protect the company’s resources. The site also had a relatively small footprint for the generator to reside.
Solution Family-owned Wolter Power Systems; Brookfield, WI, a member of the Generac Industrial Power Distribution Network, has been working with Festival Foods to provide backup power to their stores. The team, which included electrical engineers, contractors and the Festival Food staff, selected a SG300 Natural Gas generator (120/208v) to meet the company’s needs. In addition, the team configured the generator with multiple transfer switches and circuit breakers meeting the needs for a smaller footprint.
Festival Foods selected the Generac SG300 due to its many benefits as being a natural gas fueled generator. Natural gas is a highly reliable fuel source that can operate continuously during a disaster or crisis. Natural gas generators require no fuel storage tank onsite and reduce the amount of maintenance and space required for the generator unit. Additionally, natural gas generators are viewed as a more environmentally responsible solution to continuous power needs.
Generac has been a pioneer in natural gas generators and was honored in 2015 and 2014 with the Frost & Sullivan Natural Gas Generator Company of the Year Award for its ability to develop product solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, and mobile applications that utilize natural gas. Respectively, Generac was also awarded the 2016 Manufacturer of the Year Award by the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce board for manufacturing excellence.
