Workhorse Generator that can handle most household needs
Without buying a whole house, gas powered generator, this is the best deal you can get. This generator is powerful, reliable, and easy to operate. I have experienced no problems with my generator, and have been able to keep my family comfortable during power outages and other events where this device is required.

Great power!
Purchased January 2011 for home backup for all the severe T storms we have in Alabama. Can power my furnace fan (I use natural gas to heat), fridge, TV and PC simultaneously without breaking a sweat. Easy to start but I do need to charge it every 3 months or so to keep it that way. The gas meter does not operate properly but its fuel efficiency is excellent (9 gallons runs 12 hrs at 50% load). Overall, very easy to operate and more powerful than most consumer/lite commercial generators on the market. The only improvement I would suggest is adding a wattage/load meter.

Great value - model 5606 XP8000e
Most portable units are light duty with splash lubricated engines, provide high levels of THD/dirty power, and are made in China. By contrast, this unit provides crucial top end features such as pressure lube, True Power <5% THD, a 9 gallon gas tank, and is made in USA. The recon unit I received was priced as a "consumer" unit while offering "professional" level features and quality. It had 0 hours and not a scratch on it. Great value. Everything works as it should. As for noise, all portables are relatively loud -- similar to a lawn tractor with the blades off. This 8000w unit is actually a bit quieter than my old 4500w non-Generac unit despite being nearly 2x as powerful. I recommend to anyone looking for similar attributes.

Value and Solid performance
Bought my XP8000E from Lowes for the same prices as the GP8000E. Not sure if this was a mistake on Lowes part but as far as I was concerned, their loss was my gain. Getting all the extra features of an XP for the price of a GP was one sweet bargain. I found it easy to set up and the unit started immediately and has started first time every time since. I used it after hurricane Irene nailed Maryland. It easily met the power needs of my home. Two refrigerators, a 2.5 ton air conditioner, 3 PC's, 3 large flat screen TVs, all lights and my microwave most of which were usually on at the same time. I love the 12K surge capacity which is really what made this unit capable of handling the power needs for my home. The only thing that I felt might have been done better is the fuel shut off valve. Its small handle/knob doesn't feel very substantial or robust enough for the level of effort necessary to turn it. I fear that the plastic knob might eventually crack or start spinning on its shaft.

ran for over 72hrs straight, no problems
I bought the GEN in may of 2011 next thing we got hit with IRENE @ sandy hook... gen was hard wired to the house and never missed a beat, started and ran first time and every time after each 10+ gas refill

Bought for house, barn and projects
Did much research before spending the cash. Saw lots of good and bad reviews on this and other products. In the end I am glad I chose this model and it has performed as expected. Only negative I can find is when filling gas tank - easy to spill when using a heavy 5 gallon can and finding center.

Outstanding
Excellent Generator - I ran my entire house for a week non-stop with this unit. Definitely a great investment. No problems whatsoever.
