Be Prepared:
Winter storms can occur at temperatures that are near or below freezing. Many winter storms can be accompanied by dangerously low temperatures, strong winds, icing, sleet and freezing rain.
Listen to a NOAA battery-operated weather radio for critical information from the National Weather Service.
Minimize travel. If necessary, keep a disaster supply kit in your vehicle.
Keep your gas tank full for emergency use and to keep the fuel line from freezing.
Running water in your home, even a trickle, helps prevent pipes from freezing.
Insulate your home by installing storm windows or covering windows with plastic from the inside to keep cold air out.
Maintain heating equipment and chimneys by having them cleaned and inspected every year.
All fuel-burning equipment should be vented to the outside and kept clear.
