Generac reputation
This is my second Generac generator. The first one that I had lasted over 14 years. I sold it because after we sold our house, the new one we purchased was larger, and the 6500 w we used could not power the entire house. So, I sold it for a good price, because it was a Generac, it has a reputation for quality that lasts. This new generator GP15000E has the power to power the entire house! It is heavy, but because it has a solid cage frame on pneumatic wheels, (located in a balanced location) it is fairly easy to move. All the controls are easy to reach and read, and with the electric start, it is effortless! The only drawback is the noise factor, however, almost all gasoline generators are noisy! If this one lasts like the last one, I will have it for a long, long time!

emergency power
Very nice generator, runs well and not as noisy as I thought. I haven't had to use it in an emergency as of yet but I am certain it will perform to my expectations.

GP15000 Surges
I've had this generator a while, it has always surged when a load was applied. I have a factory service manual.Generac would not let me speak to a tech to further diagnose it, they tell me I have to take it to a service shop. I am afraid the shop will throw parts at it until it is fixed, assuming they do not replace everything.

A workhorse
I bought THIS generator because of the past experience with the brand, AND because this unit had a larger engine than most of the similarly sized generators. The typical 15kw genset has an 18 to 22 horsepower engine. This model has a 30hp engine!! That extra horsepower means greater power margin for starting loads like HVAC compressors. I calculated that I needed 10kw, and this units 22kw starting capacity exceeded that substantially... But in my experience I need more than the minimum because if the hvac computer crashes because of voltage drop, then starting will fail. You mush have excess power during the starting of the compressor to keep the computers happy. So I picked carefully, and while this one has much more power than I require, the price point and performance thresholds were met by *only* this generator.
So I did my first test running the whole house, and this generator handled the load with few problems, but the power was very noisy, very high harmonic distortion. Some things in the house ran fine, but things powered on transformers did not like the power. The home thermostat was inoperable, the computer in the dishwasher crashed, several of the UPS systems did not like the power and complained, and my smart LED lights were very unhappy. Sensitive loads did not like this generator at all... But once I got the thermostat bypassed, the HVAC compressor seemed to run fairly well, though the compressor was noisier than normal.
So to meet my needs I decided to buy the largest inverter generator that I could fine to run the house and electronics, and the Generac GP15000E is dedicated to the HVAC compressor *only*. The HVAC blower and electronics run on the inverter generator where they are fed a true sine wave. I didn't set out to buy this much excess capacity, but I still paid less than I would have if I had bought a similarly sized whole home generator, and I have a reconfigurable power plant now so I can handle any need.

Old Reliable!!!
We have had this unit going on 7 years now. Used it on and off over years. Never missed at beat!!!!. Fired right up after being stored outside in a deck box in zero degrees at our old house one winter. It lives inside the garage now at our current house. It's comforting to know that this unit works as well as it does. Plenty of power that's for sure. As a matter of fact we just got done using it today during a power outage due to a recent ice storm. It's easy to transport as well even being as large as it is. My wife that's 5'5 can move it around with ease. You can't go wrong with it.

Great improvement over my previous 5000 watt gen.
Ran under load for first time today. It ran like a Rolls Royce and I only had part of my system turned on. I am confident it will handle all the load we need it to handle for our 2600 sq. ft. No worries about utility power failure anymore.

Great stand by generator.
I bought this unit as a whole house backup generator. It has not let us down.
Last year while camping got a text from the power company saying power was out at the house. We came home and I fired the genny and it ran very well with the central ac and refrigerator and freezer all running at the same time. Power was restored about 5 hours later. If not for the backup we would have lost over a thousand dollars worth of food.

Great for whole house use after tornado
I just survived a devastating tornado in Chattanooga in April 2020. I actually bought this generator in 2013 for emergencies but had not used it much until now. When my areas grid was completely wiped out I rolled out the GP1500 and ran it for over 3 days to keep my house running and food frozen, Many of my neighbors lost all their food and with the Covid crisis going on that is a serious time as we are on lockdown here in Tennessee. The GP1500 powered my house and kept my family safe and fed and warm etc until power was restored. What a great product and it never flinched with the hot water heater, or HVAC etc running. All I had to do was be careful and not try to run everything all at once. Thanks Generac you saved us in 2020.
