Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great generator but battery is junk I recently purchased a condense 8000 E generator with cord because I needed a little more power. I own a 5500 generac generator and have had not one issue . I notified Generac that the battery I received with the 8000 E would not hold a charge and that sense purchasing it had to charge it every time I started it so had to pull start it. They informed me that from where I live , I had to take the generator to a repair facility approximately 80 miles from where Iive so they could check the battery , to tell me it is bad. I feel it's totally ridiculous to drag a 200 +lb generator approximately 80 miles, ONE WAY, to tell me it wont hold a charge! Took it to a local battery dealer to check it and they said it was at zero, Well do tell!!. That's the ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE WITH THIS UNIT, Generac customer service, rate 2 maybe 3!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does what it's supposed to After 35 years at the same address and typically dealing with 1 or 2 mostly short outages per year, we experienced an 8 hour outage and a 5 hour outage within 2 months. My wife said we need a generator! We looked at whole house backup but that seemed like overkill and very expensive. After lots of online research we settled on a Generac in the 6500-8000 watt range. Because we have a well, we needed 230v output. The price difference between 6500 and 8000 was so small, we opted for the GP8000e. The installer put a lockout on our electrical panel so we can switch between generator power or electric service but the generator cannot backfeed the incoming electric. Yesterday we experienced a 5 hour outage. After 30 minutes, I rolled the generator out of the garage and onto my patio. It fired up with electric start even though I had not charged the battery since the initial startup 4 months ago. I hooked up the 30amp cable to the receptacle on the house, switched the lockout on the service entrance to generator power and we had power. In addition to the well pump, furnace fan, and fridge, we ran the microwave, an electric cooktop (not at the same time), and all the lights we wanted. My only complaint, though not unexpected, was the volume. It is loud! My phone sound meter app registered 90db at about 10' away. It was about 8' from our family room and even with the windows closed, it was too loud to watch TV comfortably so we retreated to the basement. It's also quite heavy but I had no real trouble wheeling it around the house from the garage to the patio. Overall, I'm very pleased with it and my wife was happy that we had water and a cold refrigerator during our 5 hour outage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How do you keep the battery charged? I start and run my generator once a month regardless for 15 minutes. How do you keep the battery charged on this model portable generator. I am on my 3rd battery and have had 2 batteries completely fail in 4 years. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and reliability when you need it This is my 2nd Generac generator and I purchased this one for home backup. I have found the Generac brand to be there when I needed it. My 5500 portable is great, but because I added a large shed, needed just a little more. Found them easy to start and maintain and are extremely reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems great - just bought - missing a piece I just received the shipment and set it up for test run. The setup was easy (using my tractor to get it lifted off the pallet so I could install the wheels). Started right up and made electricity, so all good. Then ran it back out of fuel and disconnected the battery so it would store well. Overall, all systems go. Needed this size to run my 5HP well and some other selected items during power outages for hurricanes. Couple of points: 1. Generator arrived missing the fuel supply line from tank to carb. I didn't want to call and wait for Generac to ship me one, since I know it was only a $5 purchase at the local auto parts store. 2. It would be nice for the instructions to give a recommended amount of oil to add at initial set up. I had to add a little, then check the stick, and repeat until I figured out it took ALMOST 2 quarts. For fear of overfilling, that took longer than it should.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hurricane Auxiliary Power I bought a GP8000e 3 years ago but didn’t need to use it until now. I turned this generator on Wednesday night after hurricane Ian had passed. It’s been running for 5 days straight. I do change the oil every day, not sure if that’s necessary. It’s been running the lights, two air conditioners, tv, refrigerator… I’ve even used the washing machine.
