You get what is advertised
I decided that going without electricity and having the basement flood after the last hurricane was more stress than I wanted in my life. I did a lot searching on the internet for a generator that would give me the best peace of mind. I settled on the Generac 5940 GP6500- 6500 Watt Portable Generator (5940).
I paid for the tail gate service and it was delivered very promptly and wheeled up to my house. Assembly was extremely easy. I put oil and gas in it as directed, and with one pull it was running. A few weeks later I had the "Transfer Switch" installed and we killed all power to the house, started the generator, and flipped the transfer switch to the operating position. Everything we had connected (which was just about everything except central air conditioning) was powered on. We even ran water until our well pump turned on and the generator never even hesitated or appeared to be under strain.
So if we ever lose electricity again, especially for a long duration of time, the neighbors will see that we have heat, water, and lights. They will all be welcome!
Thanks Generac for supplying a product that truly is what is advertised. In today's world it is nice to see some honesty in advertising.

Features are good. Instructionsconfusing
The reason I was disappointed with the generator setup was that included with the generator there were parts and instructions for an extension handle. The instructions for the handle assembly were poorly written and illustrated. In addition you could not use the extension parts on this generator. Was the handle assembly included because of the recall Generac has for some models handles. My unit did not show up a recall list for this problem. Calls to consumer service got me nowhere. In the end I assembled the handle as shown in the owners manual. So the setup was frustrating and the reason for the handle extension parts is unknown and why the parts don't work on this generator make no sense.

Not a quality built product
Bought one on 1/21 it leaked gas. Called customer service (which was horrible) and they told me to take it to a certified repair shop. Ended up taking it back on 1/22 and got another one. It leaked it gas but I tightened the gas shut off and stopped leaking. Went to use the outlets and 1/2 outlets didn't work. Called customer service again to see if anything can be done. Nope have to contact a certified repair shop. Contacted repair shop and the tell me 2 weeks before it can be looked at. So bought this to use and can't use it for atleast 2 weeks? BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

Good Product
I bought this electric start Generac Portable generator for its Electric Start Feature. I have owned a Generac Non Electric Start Model for approximately 10 years and have been very satisfied with it. I bought this model for the Electric Start feature.
I wish Generac kept the previous style handles which were separate and could be easily locked into position with the spring loaded pins. The new model uses a pin on a cable which is harder to use and flimsy. Also I do not know why Generac placed the Sticker with the Serial and Model number just below the generator motor with about 2 inches of clearance with the frame making it very difficult if not impossible to see and photograph. I had to lay on my garage floor in the cold with a digital SLR camera to photo the serial and model number and did not get the quality photo I would have liked. The Serial and Model Numbers could have been easily seen and photographed if the sticker was placed on the opposite bar of the frame which has plenty of space to be photographed which I do in the event of theft. Other than the handles and the sticker I am very pleased with the unit.

A great product for a great price.
We had a power outage so I went to meanards and bought one. Brought it home put it together which was easy, added the oil and gas and it fired right up. Had everything I wanted up and running in no time. Love it!

Life saver and great value!
Words can't describe how valuable this generator is for me. With more frequent blackouts I need to be prepared with a backup solution and this Generac GP 6500 more than fills the bill. Absolutely LOVE it!!

Nice Backup Generator for the home
Needed to upgrade my home generator and found this product on sale. have always wanted a Generac portable generator. The setup was simple. The unit fired up on the first pull. Only have half an hour on it so far, but feel like it will be a good investment.
I wish there was a low idle on this unit, but there is not. So far that is my only CON.
