City of Dublin Microgrid

2 MIN READ

This distributed microgrid network showcases how municipalities can use multiple coordinated systems to enhance emergency response and reduce utility expenses through solar and battery energy storage.

Three separate microgrid systems were commissioned by Generac:

  • Senior Center: 38 kW PV + 125 kW/173 kWh ESS supports shelter operations
  • Corporation Yard: 47 kW PV + 125 kW/173 kWh ESS powers communications infrastructure
  • Wave Waterpark: 525 kW PV + 250 kW/1,056 kWh ESS serves as a cooling center during extended outages

All systems are orchestrated via the ARC microgrid control system and use Generac’s Protective Relay Cabinet (PRC) to safely island during outages.

These advanced microgrids serve as critical infrastructure nodes, playing unique roles in the city's emergency operations plan. During normal operation, the microgrid energy systems lower electricity bills through peak demand shaving and energy arbitrage.

By integrating the Generac ARC microgrid control system, the city gains real-time load control and optimization, turning each site into a dynamic energy resource. These installations demonstrate how a scalable microgrid solution can deliver both economic and public safety benefits.
