You get what is advertised
I decided that going without electricity and having the basement flood after the last hurricane was more stress than I wanted in my life. I did a lot searching on the internet for a generator that would give me the best peace of mind. I settled on the Generac 5940 GP6500- 6500 Watt Portable Generator (5940).
I paid for the tail gate service and it was delivered very promptly and wheeled up to my house. Assembly was extremely easy. I put oil and gas in it as directed, and with one pull it was running. A few weeks later I had the "Transfer Switch" installed and we killed all power to the house, started the generator, and flipped the transfer switch to the operating position. Everything we had connected (which was just about everything except central air conditioning) was powered on. We even ran water until our well pump turned on and the generator never even hesitated or appeared to be under strain.
So if we ever lose electricity again, especially for a long duration of time, the neighbors will see that we have heat, water, and lights. They will all be welcome!
Thanks Generac for supplying a product that truly is what is advertised. In today's world it is nice to see some honesty in advertising.

Great generator with a couple of minor discrepancies.
I bought this mainly for sudden power outages that I have in my area. Considering the fact that they happen often and living out in the country. Also being on well water. Back up power of some kind is even more important. Of course beggars can’t be choosers and didn’t have much of a choice but to pick this one at the time. I am however still very happy with my purchase and will do 90% of what I need it to do. Start up, running and shut off couldn’t be much easier and like that it can still be pull started if necessary. The charging port for the battery is a nice touch too.
Negatives: The instructions weren’t hard to follow but were hard to read because everything was so small. The lettering and pictures. Only other small issue I had was with putting on one of the wheels. The spindle as I guess you would call it where the cotter pin goes into had to be inserted the opposite direction of the other one because the motor mount is in the way. That’s something that could easily be remedied at the factory but would’ve been nice to see that in the instruction manual at least because I had to second and triple check to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong. Yes I’m aware it does not affect the generator at all whatsoever. Motor or moving wise obviously.
Only thing I wish this generator had was a smart idle.
In the future if and when I do get a power outage I know for a fact that this will do what I need it to do and still recommend it to people. If this 8,000 watts is enough for said purpose.

What a mess
Opened box to a oil covered generator even though it was shipped with no oil. The oil filler cap was not installed. Spent the next Three hours washing and cleaning up. Can't say how it works yet. I will keep my fingers crossed on that.

Good quality, but poor design.
I used this as a backup for power failure and for RV. The biggest problem was running anything at 120v. The breakers are set up for 14 amps each. So using rv adapter to the 240v twist plug only uses one leg of power and provides 14amps to a 30amp RV. So it won't run everything in camper, despite it producing enough power.

Easy starting, powerful, and very portable. Almost looking forward to my first of frequent power outages with this generator.

Great portable power
This generator is good for power when plugs are to far away for an extension cord.
