You get what is advertised
I decided that going without electricity and having the basement flood after the last hurricane was more stress than I wanted in my life. I did a lot searching on the internet for a generator that would give me the best peace of mind. I settled on the Generac 5940 GP6500- 6500 Watt Portable Generator (5940).
I paid for the tail gate service and it was delivered very promptly and wheeled up to my house. Assembly was extremely easy. I put oil and gas in it as directed, and with one pull it was running. A few weeks later I had the "Transfer Switch" installed and we killed all power to the house, started the generator, and flipped the transfer switch to the operating position. Everything we had connected (which was just about everything except central air conditioning) was powered on. We even ran water until our well pump turned on and the generator never even hesitated or appeared to be under strain.
So if we ever lose electricity again, especially for a long duration of time, the neighbors will see that we have heat, water, and lights. They will all be welcome!
Thanks Generac for supplying a product that truly is what is advertised. In today's world it is nice to see some honesty in advertising.

Great for backup power during hurricanes and other outages
We live in a rural area in south Georgia and lost power for 5 days during hurricane Idalia. A good friend loaned me his GP6500 once his power was restored and it saved us from loosing food in our refrigerator and freezer plus we were able to run our well and water heater. I was sold and purchased our own GP6500 the next week. He has owned his since before hurricane Irma and purchased it for the same reason.

Not properly rated
Viewing the schematic, all power, both 240v and 120v goes through one 30 amp breaker. 30 amps time 240 volts is 7200 watts with no more capacity for the 120v outlets. How can you rate this generator at 9200 watts when you can only use 7200 watts?

Good Purchase
Good Value and easy setup , only took about 15 minutes to setup and get it running , seems as the battery was not charged so had to use pull start and it fired up on first pull. I just did a quick test to make sure it would supply power and all seems fine. good piece of mind to have an alternate source of power when needed .

Time will tell.
Recieved from fed Ex in great shape, no dings or dents. Simple, straight-forward minimal assembly. Pressed electric start button and starter only spun, NOT engaging the flywheel. Pulled hand starter once and fire right up. Put included battery charger on. Next day tried electric starter and no issues, so battery needed 'topping off' even though sent as 'charged'. Battery seems a bit small for this size engine. My lawn tractor has a bigger batter for the same HP. This is going to be a covered, outside unit and it will be seeing and starting in below freezing temps. Will be interesting. Will be kept on the battery charger

A few quirks but overall happy with the product
Having an urgent need after a storm for replacing my generator ( that refused to start ), i went looking for a new one. The store had plenty of "off brands" or generic brands i was not comfortable with. I found a GP series 6500 tucked away under the rack. Knowing that Generac has made a reputation for home backup systems, i was willing to chance that they did some thinking before they put their portable generator to market. I liked the setup for the most part and it fired up with one pull (to my relief ). The Documentation was clear , giving plug requirements and a wonderful wiring diagram (thank you). Some things they could improve on is the adding of a Fuel Drain Valve, theft prevention security mounts, and supplying a cover with the unit.

Didn't work out of the box
Bought this unit and after spending an hour assembling it and filling it with gas the unit started with a few pulls of the cord. However it didn't deliver any electricity to the refrigerator I had it hooked to. Tried calling customer service but in the nine options offered, none were for troubleshooting and no way to talk with anyone. After clicking on the registration extension finally talked with a rep who suggested I hook a corded power drill to the generator without using the supplied extension cord and turn the bit backwards. Needless to say nothing happened.
Seems strange how a Passed Inspector 3 sticker was applied to the unit seeing how it ran but did not deliver electricity.
Took it back three hours later.

dont waste your money
i have 12.2 hours on this junk. It stays in a climate controlled garage when not being used, i run ethanol free gas only and drain the gas out when its done. We lost power the other night so i went to start it, it wont start and all it does is leak gas out of the carburetor. For what this junk costs its unbelievable how cheap it is
